Sometimes, God works behind the scenes in ways we do not immediately understand. Looking back, one of those moments in my life was gaining admission into Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
At the time, my admission seemed unlikely. I scored 196 in my entrance examination, but by God’s divine intervention, JAMB added additional 30 marks to my score. God also granted me success in my Post-UTME examination. What felt like an answered prayer at the time was actually the beginning of a much greater story that God was writing.
In 2010, I arrived at OAU and met my future husband during a Chemistry laboratory practical. I had arrived late to class that day, unaware that a simple encounter would mark the beginning of a friendship that would span many years. We became friends and remained so throughout our university years and beyond.
Several years later, in 2015, God began speaking to my heart about him. Despite our friendship, I struggled to see him as my future husband. From a human perspective, it did not seem to make sense, and there were several reasons why I found it difficult to imagine us together in that way. Yet God continued to confirm His word to me through different circumstances and experiences.
Even with those confirmations, I chose to wait. I never brought the subject up with him because I believed that if this was truly God’s plan, He would bring it to pass in His own way and in His perfect timing.
That moment finally came in March 2020 when he approached me and expressed his interest in pursuing a relationship. In that moment, I saw the unfolding of what God had been preparing my heart for over the years.
Our journey thereafter was not without challenges. We faced seasons of uncertainty, obstacles that tested our faith, and moments that required patience, trust, and perseverance. Through it all, God remained faithful. He guided us, strengthened our relationship, and gave us the grace to navigate every season together.
Today, as we prepare to begin this new chapter of marriage, we look back with hearts full of gratitude. What started with a miraculous admission and an unexpected friendship has become a beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness, perfect timing, and unfailing love.
Our story reminds us that God sees the end from the beginning. What may seem like an ordinary event or a small miracle today may be part of a greater purpose that will only become clear in time.
